Australia Squad for ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024

Australia revealed their 15-player squad for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, but a number of major names were left out.

Veteran batter Steve Smith, rising gun Jake Fraser-McGurk, seasoned seamer Jason Behrendorff, and all-rounder Matt Short have all been left out of the 2021 T20 World Cup champions’ roster for the four-week event in the West Indies and the United States.

Ashton Agar, a left-arm spinner who hasn’t played a T20I since the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, is recalled, while Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, and Cameron Green join Glenn Maxwell in the final team as all-rounders.

Mitchell Marsh will captain the team, following his promotion to full-time T20I status by Australia.

Marsh has been the interim leader of Australia’s T20I team for much of the last year, but the T20 World Cup will be his first major competition as captain.

Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign begins on June 5 against Oman in Barbados, followed by Group B matches against England, Namibia, and Scotland.
